Khammam: The district and municipal officials have started preparations for conducting elections to Khammam Municipal Corporation (KMC).

Municipal Commissioner, Anurag Jayanthi held a meeting with representatives of political parties here on Thursday in the wake of a recent notification issued for publication of voters list and for identification of polling booths by the State Election Commission (SEC).

The Commissioner told the leaders that draft electoral rolls had been published on April 5 based on the voters list published by the Election Commission of India on Jan 15. Political parties have to submit their objections for publication of the final list.

Similarly, the booth level officers have completed caste enumeration in every polling station and the voters list would be handed over to the political parties’ representatives. The parties should check the list and submit their objections.

The division-wise list and location of polling booths would be displayed at the corporation notice board. The objections related to electoral rolls, caste enumeration and polling booths have to be submitted before April 11, Jayanthi said.

The District Collector who held a meeting with the political parties’ leaders on Wednesday appealed to them to extend their cooperation for smooth conduct of polls. Steps would be taken to set up additional polling stations based on the requirements.
