Hyderabad: A fire broke out in a house at Kukatpally late Sunday night, allegedly after an oil lamp lit on the occasion of Maha Shivaratri triggered the blaze. No injuries were reported.

The incident occurred in an LIG house at KPHB Colony. According to fire officials, the residents had performed special prayers as part of the festival and left for a nearby temple after lighting oil lamps inside the house, which was subsequently locked.

Preliminary inquiries suggest the flames may have originated from the lamps and rapidly spread to household items and furniture, filling the premises with thick smoke within minutes.

Local residents alerted the fire department, following which personnel reached the spot and brought the blaze under control, preventing it from spreading to neighbouring houses.

An assessment of property damage is under way.
