On and off operation of KLIS pumps will damage them : Harish Rao

Former minister T Harish Rao urged the irrigation department to operate Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme pumps continuously and fill Ranganayaka Sagar to its maximum level. He also sought water releases through both canals to meet farmers' requirements

Siddipet: Former Minister T Harish Rao demanded that the irrigation department operate the pumps of the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme (KLIS) continuously for 24 hours, saying the motors could be damaged if they were operated intermittently.

Speaking after visiting Ranganayaka Sagar on Sunday, a day after the irrigation department began pumping water from Annapurna Sagar, Harish Rao pointed out that the department was operating the pumps for only eight hours a day.

Urging the government to fill the reservoir to its maximum level, Rao said the irrigation department should release water through both canals to meet the needs of farmers. He said the requirements of the oil palm factory located at Narmetta had been met after the irrigation department began lifting water following his demand.
