Katrina Kaif, who has shared the screen with several prominent actors, rings in her 38th birthday today. The diva is among the few female Bollywood superstars who have kept it tight in the industry for over 15 years now.

The Hong Kong-born actor, gained immense popularity in the industry and was once called a ‘Bollywood Barbie’, despite being mocked often for her Hindi-speaking skills.

Although many of us know what Katrina’s professional career has been over the years now, here’s a glimpse of snippets from the actor’s personal life and her admiration for her mother.

Raised by a single mother

Katrina’s mother was a Harvard graduate and a very successful lawyer. However, she gave it all up and joined a charitable organisation as a non-profit lawyer. As a result, much of Katrina’s early years were spent travelling — from Hong Kong to Japan, then China and France, to Hawaii, and, finally, London.

Katrina, on several occasions, mentioned that she was very close to her mother as she had an absentee father. Her parents separated when Katrina and her siblings were quite young. Their mother raised them all alone, Katrina once said, adding that they grew up with the belief and inspiration to be able to find themselves in the world.

Katrina said her mother did not feel the need to force her children to go to college for formal education or get a degree. She had herself found fulfilment in off-beat things and wanted her children to tread their own paths. Her only brother is a professional rock climber and skier, she mentioned in one of her Instagram posts.

Missing having a father

On several occasions, Katrina also mentioned how she missed having a father in life. Seeing friends with wonderful fathers, who acted as pillars of support, did give her regrets, the actor shared. Katrina also said her father did not try to get in touch with her after she had achieved fame. He was a decent man and came from a good family, adding that he was affluent and did not need to come back because his daughter had made it really big, she said.

A band of siblings

Katrina has six sisters and one brother, and is close to all of them. While her youngest sister Isabelle also works in Bollywood, the other siblings, she says, have hardly any clue about the industry. While they lend her their support and are happy for her success, they don’t have that connection.

Isabelle also gave her elder sibling Katrina some amazing company during last year’s nationwide lockdown.
