One dead, 18 hospitalised after consuming suspected adulterated toddy in Hyderabad
Fifteen residents of Kukatpally were hospitalised at NIMS after consuming suspected adulterated toddy. While one person is on ventilator support, others are stable. Health and excise officials have launched an investigation and assured treatment and support to the affected families.
Hyderabad: One person died and atleast 18 people are currently hospitalized at various hospitals in the cityafter allegedly consuming adulterated toddy reportedly at three toddy compounds in Kukatpally and KPHB.
They were initially admitted to different hospitals on Tuesday after complaining of acute gastroenteritis and were subsequently shifted to the state-run NIMS, Gandhi Hospital and a private hospital in Kukatpally.
Of them, Seetharam, a mason who was hospitalized in Gandhi Hospital died while undergoing treatment on Wednesday afternoon.
Out of the ill persons, one individual is on ventilator support while the remaining are in stable condition, doctors at NIMS said.
It was reported that the affected persons had consumed toddy on Tuesday. The exact cause of them falling ill after consuming the “adulterated” toddy is also being verified, officials said, adding that samples were being collected and sent for analysis.
Telangana HealthMinister C Damodar Rajanarasimha on Wednesday instructed the health officials to ensure proper treatment for those undergoing treatment at NIMS.Excise Minister,Jupally Krishna Rao and senior BJP leader, Etela Rajender on Wednesday visitedNIMS to check on the health status of the persons undergoing treatment. They interacted with the NIMS doctors and later also spoke to the family members of thepatients.Kukatpally and KPHBpolice have launched investigation into the incident.
