Mancherial: A youngster was killed on the spot and another sustained serious injuries when the two-wheeler in which they were travelling crashed head-on into an oncoming lorry in Bellampalli on Sunday.
Bellampalli II town Sub-Inspector K Bhaskar Rao said the deceased was Buri Venkatesh (22), an employee of Singareni Collieries Company Limited and the injured was his cousin brother Ponnam Sai, a contract worker of an opencast project. Both were residents of Tiryani mandal centre in Kumram Bheem Asifabad district.
Venkatesh sustained fatal injuries as he came under the wheels of the truck when the two-wheeler collided with it, resulting in instantaneous death for him. Sai received multiple injuries and he was shifted to a government hospital in Mancherial. His medical condition is learned to be safe. They both were heading to Mandamarri at the time of the mishap. Over speed was said to be the cause of the accident.
Ravi, father of Venkatesh lodged a complaint with police. A case was registered. Investigations were taken up.
A pall of gloom descended on the village following the death of the youngster on Dasara festival day.
