Hyderabad: One person was killed and four were injured when a truck crashed into vehicles and then into a temple in Uppal here on Friday morning.

The mishap occurred when the driver of the truck lost control after another truck hit his vehicle from behind. Police said the victim, K Ramchandar (39), a cine service van driver from Indira Nagar in Banjara Hills, was proceeding on his motorcycle from Banjara Hills towards Yadadri-Bhongir district at 6 am when the mishap occurred.

When he reached near the Abhayanjaneya Swamy Temple opposite Genpact in Uppal, the truck coming behind went out of control as the driver missed to notice the temple and hit an auto-rickshaw trolley and a truck going ahead with the last one hitting Ramchandar’s bike.

“The truck which was just behind the motorcycle first ran into the motorcycle at the temple and dragging the bike, crashed into the temple compound wall, damaging it partially,” police said.

Ramchandar, whose body was severed into two, died on the spot while the injured persons were those in the other truck and trolley.

“We had to cut open the driver’s cabin of the truck and rescue the driver and shift him along with other injured to the hospital,” an official said, adding that irate locals also manhandled the driver.

Teams from the GHMC, DRF and police joined hands to shift the injured to hospital, while the Uppal police, based on a complaint from Ramchandar’s wife Madhavi, have booked a case for negligence causing death and injuries apart from causing damage to public property.
