One-way traffic loop proposed between Biodiversity, Knowledge City
Cyberabad Traffic Police are exploring a one-way loop between Biodiversity Junction and Knowledge City to ease IT corridor congestion. Traffic simulations, route inspections and stakeholder consultations will precede a phased rollout, with no implementation date announced yet.
Hyderabad: Taking a cue from the successful implementation of the one-way traffic system by the Hyderabad Traffic Police around KBR Park, the Cyberabad Traffic Police are exploring a similar arrangement to ease persistent traffic congestion in the IT corridor between Biodiversity Junction and Knowledge City.
The Cyberabad Traffic Police, in collaboration with the Society for Cyberabad Security Council (SCSC), are planning a comprehensive traffic management plan aimed at reducing peak-hour gridlocks in the Hitec City and Biodiversity areas.
The proposed one-way loop aims to address four major bottleneck junctions and improve vehicular movement by making better use of existing road infrastructure.
The initiative apparently stemmed from the positive results and encouraging experience of the one-way traffic arrangement introduced around KBR Park in August. The system was implemented amid road restrictions and construction activity under the H-CITI project. By reorganising traffic movement and reducing conflicting vehicle movements, the arrangement is considered to have helped improve traffic flow as commuters gradually adapted to the revised routes.
The experience highlighted how traffic management measures, supported by careful planning and trial runs, can help ease congestion without immediately resorting to large-scale infrastructure projects.
According to authorities, under the proposed Cyberabad plan, vehicles will follow a continuous one-way loop beginning at Biodiversity Junction and passing through IKEA Rotary, Raheja Mindspace’s C-Gate, Knowledge City and Dallas Center. The route will then take a right turn at My Home Bhooja before reconnecting with Biodiversity Junction.
Officials said the system is intended to minimise delays at key junctions, reduce traffic conflicts and facilitate smoother movement during morning and evening peak hours. “If implemented successfully, it could benefit thousands of employees commuting to the IT hub, along with company buses, cabs and other road users,” said an official from the Cyberabad Traffic Police.
As part of the feasibility assessment, Cyberabad Police Commissioner M Ramesh and Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Sunpreet Singh had recently conducted a field inspection of the proposed route. They examined the existing road infrastructure and identified junction-level challenges.
Officials said detailed traffic simulation trials will be conducted in the coming days to assess vehicle speeds, traffic density and the likely impact of the proposed arrangement. Coordination meetings will also be held with IT companies, business establishments and other stakeholders to obtain feedback before finalising the plan.
Commissioner Ramesh said the one-way loop would be introduced in phases after considering stakeholder suggestions and finalising the implementation strategy. Comprehensive traffic advisories and route diversion details would be announced well in advance.
The proposal is currently at the planning stage, with no implementation date announced. The outcome of traffic simulations and stakeholder consultations will determine its final design and rollout.
