Online betting racket busted in Hyderabad, four held

Hyderabad: An online betting racket being organised in Langer Houz was busted by the Hyderabad police on Friday and four persons involved were caught. The police seized Rs 8.65 lakh in cash, eight mobile phones, a car, a motorcycle, a laptop among other articles.

Those caught were identified as Syed Zameeruddin of Vattepally, Khaja Aasim Ahmed of Kulsumpura, Mohd Shazab of Tolichowki and Azam Khan of Kishanbagh. Three others Syed Azharuddin, Syed Zaheeruddin and Taheruddin are absconding.


According to the police, three brothers – Syed Azhar, Zaheer and Zameer formed a gang with others and were organising online betting. “They created a total of 17 websites and lured people to participate. All the payments and receipts were done through online bank transfers. Around 500 people were participating in the online betting,” said P Radha Kishan Rao, DCP Hyderabad Commissioner’s Task Force.

The gang organised online/offline betting on cricket, card games, casino, football, tennis etc. “They were using websites to organise betting on around 100 sports and recreational activities,” said the official.
