Mahabubabad: A police team comprising Task Force, Central Crime Station (CCS), Special Branch and Mahabubabad Town police personnel raided several places in the town and surroundings areas and arrested 10 members of an online cricket betting gang and seized Rs 1.20 lakh cash and 10 mobile phones from them on Friday.
Five other members of the gang are said to be at large. Disclosing details to the media here, Superintendent of Police (SP) Nandayal Koti Reddy said the arrested persons were Chennaboina Madhu, Kata Sudhakar, Janne Naveen, Karpurapu Gopi, Chidirala Vinay Kumar, Dosapati Ramu, Sayyad Jakir, Mohammad Shabbir, Bojja Lakshman and Mohammad Rijwan. “All are aged between 25 years and 40 years. They participate in online betting using several betting apps like Rummy Culture, RummyCircle and Dafabet,” he said, adding that police also held counselling for 12 other youths who were inclined to participate in the betting.
“We will also invoke PD Act besides opening rowdy sheets on the organisers or punters,” the SP said. The police have registered a case under the Gambling Act. “I appeal to the parents to keep a close watch on the movements of their young children as they are prone to participate in such bettings,” Koti Reddy and appreciated the Task Force CI A Venkateshwar Rao, SB Inspector N Sagar, Town Inspector N Ravi Kumar, CCS SI SK Riyaj Pasha, SI Muralidhar Raju, and PCs Venkanna, Raghu Mohan, Bav Singh, and Satish. He also specially appreciated the DSP A Naresh Kumar for supervising the raids and rewarded the team members.
