Hyderabad: Only physical classes would be conducted from September 1 and the schools were being reopened as desired by the parents, said Education Minister P Sabitha Indra Reddy. The State government has taken a decision to reopen the schools for physical classes based on the reports submitted by the Health Department, she said.

About 60 lakh students were expected to attend the schools, the Minister said during a surprise inspection of sanitation works being taken up at ZP School, Kowkuntla in Chevella constituency on Thursday. During her visit, the Minister inspected classrooms, toilets, ground and other facilities in the school.

After inspecting the school library, Sabitha Indra Reddy said measures were being taken up to set up libraries in all the schools and one at the Kowkuntla School would be launched as a model. Since students would be turning up for schools after several days, all measures should be taken to ensure strict implementation of Covid-19 safety guidelines, she instructed officials.

The Minister insisted on provision of drinking water, power supply and sanitation in all the schools, and wanted daily reports on sanitation and sanitization works being executed in all schools to be submitted to the State government.

Appealing to the officials to instill confidence among students and parents, the Minister said in case if students develop ill health, he/she should be immediately sent to parents.

The Minister also directed all private schools to strictly follow the Covid-19 safety protocols and ensure that all school buses were sanitized regularly. Necessary safety measures should be taken while transporting students in the school buses, she said.

Meanwhile, with the State government entrusting the sanitation and sanitisation works in the city government schools to the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, Mayor Gadwal Vijayalaxmi inspected the works which were under progress at Government School, Amberpet. She directed officials concerned to clean the school premises thoroughly.
