Hyderabad: The opposition BJP and Congress have hailed the Telangana Dalit Bandhu scheme and extended their complete support for its effective implementation in the State. They even suggested that the government bring in a law to ensure Dalit empowerment continues in future.

Speaking in the State Assembly during a short discussion on ‘Dalit Bandhu’ on Tuesday, Congress Legislature Party leader Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka said the scheme would ensure socio-economic empowerment of the SCs, but urged the government to implement the scheme across the State. “The government must come up with exact budget allocations for implementing the Dalit Bandhu scheme,” he said, and sought monitoring committees to be constituted for implementing the scheme with members from all political parties to prevent any political discrimination.

BJP MLA M Raghunandan Rao appreciated the government’s initiative to empower the SCs. If there are any budget constraints, he said the BJP MLAs were ready to cooperate with the State government in getting more funds from the Centre. “We request Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao to lead an all-party delegation to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi. We also request the Central government to expedite its efforts for SC categorisation,” he added. He also thanked the Chief Minister for his blessings for a brighter future in politics.

AIMIM floor leader Akbaruddin Owaisi also welcomed the Dalit Bandhu scheme for economic empowerment of SCs and urged the government to extend the scheme to Muslims as well as other weaker sections in the State. AIMIM MLA Ahmed Bin Abdul Balala appreciated that at a time when Dalits and Muslims were being lynched in some parts of the country, the Telangana government was launching such novel schemes for upliftment of Dalits.
