Hyderabad: Family members of 48-year-old Ponugoti Venkateshwera Rao, a small business owner from Kondukur, Adilabad, who was declared brain dead, have donated his organs to needy patients under the State-run Jeevandan organ donation initiative.

On July 26, Venkateshwera Rao complained of sudden giddiness and lost consciousness and collapsed at his home and was taken to a private hospital in Hyderabad.

Despite best efforts in the emergency ICU unit, his health condition did not improve and doctors declared him brain dead on July 31.

Ponugoti Venkateshwera Rao’s son Ponugoti Rohith Krishna made the heartfelt decision to donate his kidneys, liver and lungs, helping four patients in need.
