Hyderabad: Gone are the days when bribes were accepted in a hush-hush manner under the table. The corrupt employees have become so emboldened nowadays that they accept bribes online.

Here is one such case of a Deputy Executive Engineer of the Osmania University, who accepted a bribe of Rs 5,000 online and later Rs 6,000 in cash to release the money due to a contractor. Unfortunately for him, the anti-corruption bureau officials lay in wait and nabbed him along with the bribe amount on Tuesday.

The arrested official, Rakonda Srinivasulu, Deputy Executive Engineer, in Osmania University Buildings Division, had demanded a bribe of Rs 11,000 for releasing the bills to the tune of Rs 7.37 lakh for carrying out renovation works in Maneru Boys Hostel on the campus. His assurance in return for the bribe was also not to cause any obstacles in future contract works.

Srinivasulu was stated to have accepted the initial instalment of Rs 5000 on the Phone Pe app, while the remaining amount was paid in cash, when the ACB officials nabbed him. A chemical test done on his hands proved that he had indeed accepted the currency notes sprinkled with a chemical which would turn pink when it came in contact with water. Unknown to him, the anti-graft officials had sprinkled the chemical on the currency notes, which were accepted by him as a bribe.

The officials are now being arrested and produced before a magistrate.
