Hyderabad: The Department of Commerce, Osmania University, hosted a high-impact investor awareness programme at the University College of Commerce and Business Management (UCC&BM).
Organised in collaboration with Mumbai-based G-Institutions and Consultancy, a SEBI-registered entity, the session aimed to equip MCom and MCom (IS) students with the tools necessary to navigate the complexities of modern financial markets.
The programme centered on the core philosophy of the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) that “an educated investor is a protected investor,” promoting financial education as a vital tool for making prudent and responsible financial decisions.
Dr Sarika Lohana, an expert from Mumbai, conducted an intensive two-hour deep dive into equity and derivatives. She initiated the discussion by bridging the gap from savings to strategic investment, addressing the critical difference between the two in the face of current inflationary pressures. She emphasised that investment plays an indispensable role in modern financial planning.
Moving into the mechanics of the market, she provided a comprehensive overview of decoding market mechanisms and regulation, detailing how SEBI, as a regulatory body, supervises stock exchanges, depository participants, and clearing corporations. Through simple, practical examples, she helped commerce students understand the real-world functioning of the securities market and the broader stock exchange.
