Hyderabad: Osmania University has sought the help of National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) to develop infrastructure for its BE (Mining) course that was reintroduced in the University, according to a press release.
In a letter, Vice-Chancellor, Osmania University (OU), Prof D Ravinder urged V Ramesh Babu, Director (operations) NTPC to help under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative.
The intake for BE (Mining) course of OU is 60 students and it starts from 2021-22. The CSR funds are being sought to develop infrastructure to impart hands-on training to students, he said.
The VC said that the NTPC has responded positively and has expressed hope that they will support the initiative. The VC said that the BE (Mining) course was reintroduced after factoring the expanding mining sector in the country and demand for trained manpower and alumni prodding the OU. The course was first launched in 1956 and later on had to be discontinued.
As part of seeking help from NTPC, a delegation from OU including Registrar, Prof P Laxminarayana, Principal of University College of Engineering, Prof Sriran Venkatesh members of OU College of Engineering Alumni Association met Director (Operations), NTPC, Ramesh Babu.
