Hyderabad: Osmania University (OU) and union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to jointly undertake a comprehensive capacity-building programme for municipal administration personnel through the Regional Centre for Urban and Environmental Studies (RCUES), OU.

The MoU aims to strengthen the knowledge base, efficiency, and administrative capabilities of municipal officials of seven States and two union Territories, empowering them to deliver improved urban governance and citizen services. The initiative will provide structured training modules focused on urban planning, waste management, smart governance, traffic management solutions, digital transformation, and sustainable infrastructure development.

OU Vice Chancellor Prof. Kumar Molugaram, along with RCUES director Prof. Srinagesh, exchanged the MoU with the ministry’s senior bureaucrats in presence of union Minister of State of Housing and Urban Affairs Tokhan Sahu at National Urban Conclave 2025 held at New Delhi on Sunday. More than 3,000 participants representing urban local bodies from across the country attended the event.

Prof. Molugaram emphasized the importance of continuous learning and skill enhancement among urban governance professionals. He remarked: “Urban transformation in India demands not only infrastructure but also intellectual and administrative readiness. Through this collaboration, we aspire to empower municipal officers with modern tools, knowledge, and management practices that align with India’s vision for sustainable and inclusive urban growth.”

The union Minister appreciated the University’s commitment to nation-building through academic excellence and practical engagement. He highlighted that the partnership represents a forward-looking collaboration between academia and government, aimed at shaping future-ready urban systems.
