Hyderabad: Osmania University College of Engineering (OUCE) on Monday received a generous contribution of USD 110,000 from its alumnus Tella Gopal Rao, representing the Tella Sakamoto Foundation, USA.

Gopal Rao, an alumnus of the Class of 1960 from the Department of Mining Engineering at the University College of Engineering (A), has earmarked USD 100,000 for transforming mining education and USD 10,000 for the Department of Electrical Engineering to support state-of-the-art infrastructure development.

OU Vice Chancellor Prof. Kumar Molugaram said the funding would act as a vital catalyst, bridging the gap between academia and industry to address real-world, research-oriented challenges.

The USD 100,000 endowment allocated to the Department of Mining Engineering will fund a new modern facility dedicated to upgrading laboratory infrastructure, accommodating cutting-edge automation, advancing research in mining practices, safety and eco-friendly extraction, and implementing AI and ML applications for real-world mining operations.

An additional USD 10,000 donation will be used for the construction of a new building for the Department of Electrical Engineering.

At a ceremony, the OU Vice Chancellor handed over the financial allocation to the Telangana State Education & Welfare Infrastructure Development Corporation (TGEWIDC) to initiate construction immediately.

OUCE Principal Prof. P Chandra Sekhar thanked Gopal Rao, the Vice Chancellor, TK Gopal Krishna and the Alumni Association for their collaboration.
