Khammam: Commissioner of Police Sunil Dutt said that tight security arrangements have been made for Ganesh idol immersion on Saturday and traffic restrictions have been imposed under the limits of Khammam Police Commissionerate.
In view of the traffic restrictions, motorists should take alternate routes and avoid areas where Ganesh immersion processions will be taken out. The district police, in coordination with revenue, municipal, R&B, medical and electrical departments, have made all arrangements to prevent any untoward incidents during the immersion.
CCTV cameras and barricades were installed at immersion points. About 700 Ganesh idols in the Khammam division are expected to be immersed in two areas. Ganesh committees should take the initiative to ensure timely completion of immersion, the CP said.
During the immersion, only two or three persons will be allowed on each crane. The use of sound systems, DJs and laser beams is prohibited during the procession. Organisers should also ensure that drivers of vehicles do not consume alcohol, Dutt added.
Wine shops, bars, restaurants, clubs and hotels serving liquor will remain closed from 6 am on September 6 to 6 am on September 7. Strict action will be taken if any liquor outlets are found violating the rules, he warned.
Additional DCP (Law and Order) Prasad Rao said that about 500 police personnel will be deployed to maintain law and order and ensure smooth flow of traffic during the immersion in the district. He inspected arrangements for immersion at Kalvoddu and other areas on Friday.
