Khammam: Over 6,000 applications have been filed for liquor licences in Khammam district by 7 pm on Thursday, said the District Prohibition and Excise Officer V Somi Reddy.
As Thursday was the last day to submit the applications, a large number of applicants turned out at the Excise office. The number of applications might go up as applicants were still standing in the queue line to submit their applications when the last reports came in. Over 2,000 applications were filed on Thursday alone.
There were a total of 122 liquor shops under the limits of seven Excise Police Stations in the district. There was much demand for shops in Madhira and Sathupally mandals located on AP-Telangana borders as over 1,000 applications filed for 20 and 23 shops. In Kothagudem district, over 2,500 applications were submitted for 88 shops under the limits of six Excise Police Stations. On Thursday alone over 800 applications were submitted, the excise officials said.
