Hyderabad: The Cyberabad police booked 3,854 cases against cyber fraudsters this year as against 1,212 the previous year. A total of 164 persons were arrested by the police for their involvement in the offences.
Cyberabad Police Commissioner Stephen Raveendra said cybercrime cases were witnessing an increase in view of people switching over to online transactions and e-wallets for payments.
“To prevent cybercrime, we are regularly holding awareness programs. At the same time, the gangs involved in the cases are being nabbed from various States and remanded. Preventive Detention Act is also invoked against some persons involved in the offences,” said the official.
He said the Cybercrime police helped several persons who lodged complaints on toll-free number ‘155260” get back the money. “An amount of Rs 1.60 crore was frozen in bank accounts after the victims immediately made complaints on the national helpline,” said Stephen Raveendra.
