Khammam: With continuous rains in the past couple of days, several streams in some mandals were overflowing disrupting vehicular traffic on Tuesday.

Because of an overflowing stream, traffic was stopped on the Madepalli Madhapuram road in Mudigonda mandal. Similarly, traffic was disrupted on Palair to Narsimhulagudem road in Palair mandal in the district.

Transportation from Narsimhulagudem to various villages was cut off while traffic between Narsimhalagudem-Kottur, Eshwaramadaram-Mangalitanda villages came to a standstill.

Kusumachi CI, Sathish inspected the overflowing streams and alerted the public not to cross the low lying bridges across the streams. Police were patrolling Narasimhulagudem and other villages to prevent the public from crossing the overflowing streams.

According to officials, heavy rains in erstwhile Warangal district resulted in heavy inflows into Palair reservoir at Narsimhulagudem. The officials have lifted 24 gates of the reservoir to release excess water downstream.

Paddy fields and other standing crops in the vicinity of the above villages submerged in floodwaters. Though there was no rain in three mandals in Khammam district, Tirumalayapalem mandal received very heavy rainfall of 15 cm during the past twenty four hours.

In Kothagudem district the rain situation was rather normal as there was no rainfall in six mandals while the other mandals received light to rather heavy rainfall. The district average rainfall recorded in the past 24-hours was 5.2 mm.
