Owaisi urges GHMC to restart mechanical sweeping work
Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi urged CM Revanth Reddy to resume GHMC’s halted mechanical sweeping operations. He said the work was stopped due to lack of funds and called for long-term tenders to maintain hygiene and worker safety in the city
In a letter addressed to the Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, the Hyderabad MP said that all the agencies hiring sweeping machines to GHMC have ceased sweeping.
“Upon further enquiry, it has been found that the reason behind cessation of work is the lack of budget or administrative sanction in GHMC. It is shocking to find out that an elementary activity such as mechanised sweeping is on hold due to paucity of funds. In my opinion, this work is completely unavoidable in the modern world for various reasons such as safety of manual sweepers, cost-efficiency and productivity for GHMC, and most importantly, environmental impact to our citizens,” he stated.
He demanded that the work be resumed immediately and sanction for long-term tenders for hiring these machines from well-qualified and experienced sweeping contractors be granted so that we maintain our status as a seven-star visibility and qualitatively clean global city..
