Hyderabad: Congress leader N Uttam Kumar Reddy described former Prime Minister P V Narasimha Rao as the doyen of reforms, especially economic and land reforms. He stated that the land reforms implemented by the former Prime Minister provided justice to the landless poor and the needy, resulting in social justice and set a precedent for other governments.

He was participating in a discussion on the land reforms implemented by Narasimha Rao as part of his year-long birth centenary celebrations being organised by TPCC in the State. “Narasimha Rao implemented land reforms in a historic manner in erstwhile Andhra Pradesh, despite severe opposition. Ever since, the Congress always made efforts to provide land and housing to the poor and the weaker sections of society,” he said.

Uttam Kumar Reddy said the late Prime Minister was responsible for India’s growth into a super economic power as well as nuclear power. “PV left behind a great legacy that the Congress party has continued with. To date, the Congress is committed to social justice which is the party’s fundamental ideology and will strive for it even if not in power,” he added.

Congress senior leaders J Geeta Reddy, V Hanumantha Rao, Mallu Ravi, MLAs D Sridhar Babu, T Jagga Reddy and other Congress leaders along with senior journalists K Ramachandra Murthy and K Srinivas also spoke on the occasion.
