Hyderabad: State BJP president Bandi Sanjay Kumar on Wednesday asked the party cadre to take part in large numbers in demonstrations to be organised by the party in all the district Collector offices on Thursday demanding that the State government purchase paddy from farmers.
Interacting with district party presidents, in-charges and heads of various morchas at the State party office here, he wondered as to why the State government was hesitating to purchase paddy when the Centre had already expressed its readiness to buy 60 lakh metric tonnes of paddy. The Centre had also addressed a letter to the State government in this regard.
Sanjay discussed the problems being faced by farmers due to delay in procuring paddy apart from the attitude of the State government towards farmers’ problems. He took strong exception to the TRS blaming the Centre on procurement issue. The BJP decided to organise demonstrations at the district Collector offices to put pressure on the State government to buy paddy.
The NDA government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi was extending Rs 1,960 as Minimum Support Price (MSP) for paddy apart from bearing the expenses of gunny bags, transport and godown storage charges among other expenses, Sanjay said, adding that the Centre was also giving commission to the State government for purchasing paddy and handing over to it.
Meanwhile, the BJP national general secretary and Telangana in-charge Tarun Chugh said ‘Praja Sangrama Yatra’ undertaken by Sanjay a few weeks ago enabled the party to win the by-election in Huzurabad Assembly constituency. He came to the city to take part in the preparatory meeting convened to discuss the arrangements to be made for the second phase of the yatra from November 21 to January 10.
