Hyderabad: BRS MLA Padi Kaushik Reddy lashed out at Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy for betraying Dalits by freezing the Dalit Bandhu scheme funds and causing grave injustice to the community. He vowed to fight for the restoration of the scheme in Huzurabad constituency.

Speaking to mediapersons at Telangana Bhavan here on Monday, Kaushik Reddy reminded that his Huzurabad constituency was chosen as a pilot project under former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao’s leadership, with the first installment benefitting many Dalit families.

“While the BRS government extended Dalit Bandhu to two lakh beneficiaries across Telangana, the Congress government has halted the second phase in Huzurabad and frozen the scheme in all 33 districts,” he alleged.

The Huzurabad MLA said Dalits in Huzurabad were being misled into believing that he stopped the funds. He held Ministers D Sridhar Babu and Ponnam Prabhakar responsible for ignoring petitions from Dalits seeking the release of funds. “Instead of addressing their grievances, the Congress government has filed FIRs against Dalit women and subjected them to police harassment,” he charged.

He specifically called out the Huzurabad ACP for allegedly troubling Dalits and vowed to raise the issue to the State and National SC Commissions.

“We are not afraid of police intimidation. Dalit organisations must rise against this injustice. We will continue to fight until Dalit Bandhu is resumed in the State,” he declared.
