Hyderabad: With the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup set to begin in a few days’ time, the teams that arrived in UAE for the mega event, started unveiling their team jerseys.
Owing to Covid-19 pandemic situation in the country, India and ICC have agreed to host the ICC event in UAE and Oman. However, India remains the hosting nation. But the team jersey of Pakistan, which was unveiled on Thursday, sported ICC Men’s T20 World Cup UAE 2021, which mentions UAE as the host nation instead of India.
According to the ICC rules, the hosting rights are reserved to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and Pakistan’s move to use UAE name can land them in trouble. Though the Pakistan team management has yet to unveil the team jersey officially, Pakistan captain Babar Azam wearing the new team jersey with UAE name has gone viral and attracted severe criticism online. Many fans took to the social networking site to hit out at the Pakistan team for the move.
However, BCCI or the ICC haven’t issued any official statement in this regard. India and Pakistan are at loggerheads as they stopped playing bilateral series owing to the tense situation between the two nations. India will take on arch-rivals Pakistan on October 24 in the World Cup. India enjoys a superior head-to-head record against Pakistan in ICC World Cup as the neighbouring country failed to defeat the Men In Blues ever in the 50-over or T20 World Cups so far.
