The gas cremation unit at Paloncha Vaikunta Dhamam in Kothagudem district.
Kothagudem: Nava Bharat Ventures Limited (NBVL) has equipped Paloncha Vaikunta Dhamam with a gas cremation unit to conduct final rites of people who died of Covid-19 in a safe manner. The unit has been installed with an expenditure of Rs 14 lakh as part of the NBVL’s corporate social responsibility initiative, informed the company Dy Manager (Social Development) M Srinivasa Rao.
“The new facility will reduce the burden on the civic authorities in cremating the bodies of those who died of Covid-19,” he said speaking to Telangana Today. “In recent times, there has been a problem in cremating the bodies of persons who died of Covid-19. Fearing the spread of the virus, even the kin of the deceased stayed away from performing the final rites,” Srinivasa Rao further said.
“The gas crematorium at the Vaikunta Dhamam will address the difficulty in procuring firewood for the cremation. The new facility will come in handy even during the rainy season,” he explained. One can also place sandalwood inside the gas chamber as wood is traditionally used in the funeral pyre. One 14-kg LPG cylinder will be enough to cremate a body as compared to hundreds of kg of wood required for a funeral pyre, he noted.
