Suryapet: Energy Minister G Jagadish Reddy on Thursday said everyone should do their mite for protection of environment. “People should consider participation in Telangana ku Haritha Haram, introduced by Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao to increase green and forest area in the State, as their social responsibility,” the Minister said.

Speaking after laying the foundation stone for a Rs 4 crore commercial complex in place of old Suryapet Municipality office near Vaanijya Bhavan here, Jagadish Reddy said protection of environment and maintaining ecological balance help in creating a healthy atmosphere.

Observing that the importance of Suryapet had shot up after it was upgraded into district headquarters, he said that development works including integrated market, road widening and beautification of town were taken up by the State government in the last four years. Supplying Godavari water as safe drinking water to the people of Suryapet, who earlier depended on Musi water for drinking purposes, was the biggest achievement of the government, he added. Pulla Reddy Cheruvu and Saddala Cheruvu were developed as mini-tank bunds at Suryapet, he pointed out.

The Minister said Suryapet municipality had also taken up development of parks in different places in the town to create lung spaces for the people.

Suryapet municipal chairperson Perumalla Annapurnamma, Vice Chairman Putta Kishore, district libraries chairman Nimmala Srinivas Goud and municipal commissioner Ramanujula Reddy also attended the programme.
