Hyderabad: Working from home gives the opportunity for many, especially women, to balance their personal and professional life well. But not many understand where and how to start, get the right training, and take a step forward to convert their passion into a career or a home-based business venture. When it comes to food biz, it gets doubly difficult as the competition is high and there are many players.

That’s where Pooja Lakhotia comes in to help with her Choc O Lock Baking Studio. This Hyderabad-based commerce professor-turned-baker decided to follow her passion, and also help others follow theirs.

Her baking courses have been attended by 6,000-plus people from all over India and have received wonderful reviews on social media platforms. Earlier, she was just taking offline classes in Hyderabad, but the first wave of Covid made her turn to online mediums and enabled many people from outside the city too to train with her.

Her classes don’t stop just with the course; Pooja is readily available for any queries and learning support after the classes. “My students range from 8-year-old kids to 70 years young, soon-to-be married girls to grandmoms too. All my courses focus on baking from the scratch without preservatives and artificial enhancers. Classes range from basic baking to trendy and theme cakes to baking courses with millets and refined sugar-free options,” says Pooja, who also conducts workshops.

While many people feel that eggless baking is a task, from her personal experience Pooja assures learners that it is easy to bake with readily available ingredients in your kitchen.

“Nowadays, people have good demand for pure chocolate ganache cakes rather than fondant. Nicely finished pure chocolate and mousse cakes give you a similar-looking finishing as fondant. To give them a good theme and excellent décor, you can use small accents of fondant, chocolate, Isomalt, rice paper, wafer paper or fresh flowers to it,” shares Pooja.

The city baker not only has many options like chocolates, pure chocolate ganache cakes with trendy designs, brownies, cookies, healthy breads, teatime cakes, natural ice creams, cold desserts, chocolate bouquets, macarons, granolas, and nutribars on offer, but all these are eggless and gelatin-free.

And yes, not to forget her Italian meal, including fresh dough pastas and pizzas from the scratch.

Besides all the above-mentioned stuff, she also teaches the basics of baking, and decorating cream cakes. People can enrol for her classes by logging on to the page ‘Choc O Lock Baking Studio’ on Facebook and Instagram.
