Hyderabad: Prohibition and Excise Minister V Srinivas Goud here on Saturday instructed officials to immediately pay ex-gratia to the family members of toddy tappers, who died and the tappers, who suffered disability permanently.

At a review meeting with excise officials and MLAs and MLCs from Goud community, he said the State government has increased ex-gratia amount for the death of tappers or for the tappers, who suffered permanent disability while tapping to Rs 5 lakh from Rs.2 lakh.

He asked officials to pay ex-gratia like Rythu Bima and instructed them to collect details of toddy tappers who died or suffered injuries while tapping within 24 hours and complete the process within a week under the guidance of Excise Commissioner.

The Minister asked authorities to clear dues pertaining to ex-gratia payment and reviewed the construction of Neera cafe that is coming up on Tank Bund. He wanted officials to complete the construction work soon as it will also be a centre of promotion for Neera by-products.

Under the supervision of the excise department, excise nurseries should be established in every district headquarters by ensuing monsoon and plant saplings of palm trees. He said stern action should be taken against those who are chopping palm trees without any permission and added that identity cards should be issued to the society members and Tree for Tappers (TFT) license holders.

Officials must take necessary steps to sanction pension to eligible tappers, he said.
