Khammam: Police have invoked Preventive detention (PD) Act against an autorickshaw driver, accused in the rape case of a minor girl, and lodged him in Warangal Central Prison.
Commissioner of Police Vishnu S Warrier informed that the accused, Kallepally alias Jampanna of Ramanagutta area in Khammam city raped a 12-year-old minor girl from UPH Colony in the city on February 7 this year.
A case under IPC Sections 376 AB, 366, 294 (b), 506 and Sections 4 and 7 of POCSO Act was registered at Khanapuram Haveli police station in this regard. Sampath was arrested on February 15 in the case and remanded in Khammam district jail, the CP said.
He was released on bail on April 27 and the locals and parents were horrified to see the accused moving in the area. In addition to the rape of the minor girl, the accused was involved in 15 thefts and other cases.
Since it would be dangerous to the society for such a hardened criminal to be let loose, the PD Act was enforced and he was sent back to jail.
