Peddapalli: Singareni safety officer Theetla Satyanarayana died after falling in the 7 life extension project (LEP) sand bunker in Ramagundam-II of Godavarikhani on Tuesday afternoon.
Head over-man Satyanarayana, who also got authorization as safety officer recently, accidentally fell into the sand bunker and died due to suffocation.
The bunker was established to fill the sand in the closed 7 LEP underground coal mine. The process of sand filling was stopped some time ago. Since the filling of sand was not done perfectly, the Director General of Mines Safety instructed authorities to fill more sand in the mine.
Based on DGMS instructions, Singareni officials have decided to fill more sand by reviving the bunker. While examining the revival process, Satyanarayana accidentally fell into it. Whenever he slipped into the bunker, the old sand and fly ash piled up in the bunker fell on him.
Except for one or two workers, more workers were not available to rescue the officer. Unfortunately, he died due to suffocation by the time the rescue team was reached.
Trade union leaders found fault with Singareni management for neglecting the safety of workers despite repeated incidents taking place in different areas. They demanded the management to provide all kinds of benefits to the deceased family.
The Rescue team removed the body from bunker and shifted it to Singareni area hospital, Godavarikhani
