People urged to donate gold for Yadadri temple gopuram

Hyderabad: After consulting the Agama Shastra experts and others, Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao on Tuesday announced the decision to take up gold plating of Vimana Gopuram at Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy temple in Yadadri. The project requires 125 kg of gold worth Rs 60-65 crore and the Chief Minister appealed to the people of Telangana State to contribute their mite for the devotional cause. “Everyone should participate in the gold donation since it would give them a sense of participation in the temple reconstruction,” he said.
Speaking to media persons at Yadadri after inspecting the renovated temple, Chandrashekhar Rao said the Yadadri Temple Development Authority officials consulted the artisans who took up gold plating of Vimana Gopuram at Tirumala and the latter have agreed to take up the project.
“They have given estimates of 125 kg of pure gold for the purpose. Many people are coming forward to contribute gold for the cause. But to involve devotees and develop an emotional connection, we decided to seek donations from the general public as well. As the project requires pure gold, we urge people to donate an amount equivalent to the quantity of gold that they want to donate. The government will purchase the entire gold from Reserve Bank of India to ensure its quality,” he said.
On behalf of his family, the Chief Minister announced donation of 1 kg and 16 tolas of gold to the temple. He said a large number of donors had come forward to donate gold for the gold plating of the Vimana Gopuram. Sri Tridandi Chinna Jeeyar Swamy also announced a kg of gold on behalf of Jeeyar Peetham. Hetero Group chairman Parthasaradhi Reddy announced a donation of 5 kg gold for the cause. Labour Minister Ch Malla Reddy announced one kg gold in his personal capacity and another kg on behalf of Medchal constituency, while Nagarkurnool MLA Marri Janardhan Reddy announced 2 kg gold. Kaveri Seeds chairman Bhaskar Rao, Telangana Publications chairman D Damodar Rao and several others announced donations of one kg gold each.
“We are expecting more gold donations than required for gold plating, considering the response from devotees,” he said. He urged people to participate and said each gram panchayat should donate at least Rs 11. Taking inspiration from the Chief Minister, TRS legislators from Rangareddy and Medchal Malkajgiri districts also came forward to donate to the Yadadri temple. Finance Minister T Harish Rao announced one kg gold from the Siddipet constituency. MP G Ranjith Reddy, MLCs K Naveen Kumar and Shambhipur Raju, MLAs A Gandhi, M Hanumanth Rao, M Krishna Rao and KP Vivekanand also announced a kg each.
Siddipet residents to donate 1 kg gold
With Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao announcing the date for the reopening of Yadadri temple on Tuesday, Finance Minister T Harish Rao said the people of Siddipet constituency will together donate 1 kg gold for gold-plating of the temple gopuram. “It will be an honour to be part of the temple’s renovation,” he said and hailed Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao for taking up the renovation of the temple.
