Karimnagar: Health Minister Eatala Rajender on Friday advised people with Covid-19 symptoms not to wait for test results and to start treatment without wasting any time.
Several patients suffering from common fever, cold and cough have tested positive for Covid-19, he said. In some cases, test results get delayed, and hence, people suffering from fever, cold and cough should immediately start medicines for coronavirus after consulting doctors, the Minister said.
In this regard, instructions have also been issued to doctors, the Minister said in an interaction with the media after inaugurating oxygen supply unit, RTPCR testing machine in the district headquarters hospital along with BC Welfare and Civil Supplies Minister here.
Asking people not to neglect the virus, Rajender said people with comorbidities such as hypertension, diabetes, kidney ailment and cancer and other ailments should not neglect the virus.
The Minister said that though positive cases were on the rise on a daily basis, the mortality rate in the State was only 0.5 per cent. “People who denied testing in the initial stages as well as taking medicines even after testing positive for the virus died,” the Health Minister added.
Moreover, the youth who neglected the virus also died. They came to know it with an experience of the last one year. Cancer, dialysis patients would survive a long time after being infected by the diseases. However, in the cases of corona, patients could not predict severity till the death. Oxygen saturation level falls down suddenly.
Informing that there was no shortage of oxygen in government hospitals, he said they came to know about a shortfall in private hospitals and the problem would be solved within two to three days.
To overcome it, the Telangana government hired two Army flights to bring oxygen from Rourkela Steel Plant, Odisha. Four oxygen tankers in each flight were sent to steel plant to bring 80 tons of oxygen.
Government hospitals are well equipped to treat corona patients and there was no shortfall for testing kits, oxygen, ventilators beds, ICU beds, Remdesivir injections and others. So, patients should not spend huge money for treatment by approaching private nursing homes.
Talking about district hospitals, Rajender said all facilities were made in the erstwhile district hospitals such as Karimangar, Jagitial, Peddapalli and Rajanna-Sircilla. Collectors were given all powers to take immediate decisions about oxygen supply, Remdesivir medicine and others.
20 KL oxygen plant was established in Karimnagar district hospital to overcome oxygen shortage problem. It supplies oxygen to patients for seven days. In order to get accurate and fast results, RTPCR testing machine was established. In a day, 400 tests could be done. If two automatic machines were added to the machine, 2,000 tests could be done in a day, he informed.
