Warangal Urban: Noted physician Dr Ramaka Lakshmana Murthy (83) passed away at his residence at Ram Nagar in Hanamkonda on Thursday night. Born to Gopala Ramaiah and Thulasmamma on June 1, 1938 at Husnabad in erstwhile Karimnagar district, he lost his mother at an early age and was raised by his maternal uncle Kundhavajjula Ramachandraiah at Indurthy village.
He obtained his MD in general physician from Osmania University and started his career as a government doctor at Karimnagar Civil Hospital. Later, Lakshmana Murthy joined the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Hospital (MGMH) in Warangal in 1977 and served the patients for two decades. By taking voluntary retirement, he started his medical services at Ram Nagar in Hanamakonda and earned a name as ‘people’s doctor’. Lakshmana Murthy was very close associate of ‘Praja Kavi’ Kaloji Narayana Rao. In 1997, he was felicitated at a programme attended by Vice-Chancellors from eight universities across the nation at the then Regional Engineering College (Now NIT) in Warangal.
Lakshmana Murthy was survived by wife Anantha Lakshmi, sons Dr Ramaka Srinivas, a cardiologist in Warangal, Ramaka Shashidhar (software engineer settled in the US), daughters Gangu Vani (government school teacher) and professor Lakhsmi (pharmacy professor in the US).
The last rites of Lakshmana Murthy were conducted at Padmakshi Gutta in Hanamkonda on Friday. Several members of the Indian Medical Association (IMA), Warangal, former MLA Marthineni Dharma Rao, and others attended the funeral.
