Hyderabad: In front of KBR Park in the city, a supporter of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) India, wearing a realistic fish costume lied down between two ‘fish’ props beneath a banner that proclaimed “Try to Relate to Fish’s Fate. Please Go Vegan.”
The action aimed to demonstrate that fish are sentient living, feeling beings who feel pain just like we do and don’t want to die, PETA India said while urging Hyderabad residents to relate to fishes on their plates and to go vegan.

“Every fish that ends up on a plate was an individual who felt pain and fear, just as I and all other animals do,” said PETA India Campaigns coordinator UtkarshGarg.“PETA India is calling on people to spare these sensitive aquatic animals the agony of being suffocated, impaled, crushed, and cut open – simply by choosing vegan meals.”
More fish are killed for food each year than all other animals combined, often in agonising ways – they’re impaled, crushed, gutted, or dropped into boiling water while still alive and conscious, PETA India said in a statement issued here.
Everyone who goes vegan saves the lives of nearly 200 animals a year, dramatically shrinks their carbon footprint, and reduces their risk of suffering from heart disease, diabetes, and cancer.
