Los Angeles: “Game of Thrones” alum Peter Dinklage is set to star in “The Reckoner”, an original action feature to be directed by filmmaker Kenji Tanigaki.
According to Deadline, Lionsgate has acquired the project, which will be produced by filmmaker duo Anthony and Joe Russo’s AGBO banner.
Tanigaki, who shot to global fame with his blockbuster movie “The Furious” earlier this year, will direct the project from a script by “John Wick” writer Derek Kolstad.
Dinklage and Kolstad are also producing the film alongside AGBO’s Angela Russo-Otstot, Michael Disco and Kassee Whiting, as well as David Ginsberg under Estuary Films.
Anthony and Joe Russo will executive produce.
“The Reckoner” marks the latest collaboration between Lionsgate and AGBO following their upcoming “John Rambo” film, directed by Jalmari Helander and starring Noah Centineo.
Lionsgate Motion Picture Group president Erin Westerman praised Tanigaki following the success of his latest directorial venture.
“‘The Furious’ showcases a singular filmmaking talent, and we’re thrilled to reunite with our friends at AGBO to bring his bold vision for ‘The Reckoner’ to audiences worldwide,” Westerman said.
Released earlier this year, “The Furious” follows Wang Wei, played by Xie Miao, whose daughter is kidnapped by a criminal syndicate. He joins forces with journalist Navin, portrayed by Joe Taslim, whose wife has disappeared, as the two embark on a violent mission to rescue their loved ones.
The action film grossed more than USD 31 million worldwide.
Best known for his Emmy-winning performance as Tyrion Lannister in the acclaimed fantasy drama series “Game of Thrones”, Dinklage has also starred in films such as “The Station Agent”, “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri”, “Cyrano”, “The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes” and “Wicked”.
He is currently filming the second season of the FX sci-fi series “Alien: Earth”.
