Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Commissioner’s Task Force (Golconda) team, along with the SR Nagar police, apprehended a suspected drug supplier and a consumer and seized a large quantity of habit-forming medicines and cough syrups worth Rs 4.80 lakh from their possession.

The arrested persons were identified as Pathan Saleem (28), a pharmacy worker from Yousufguda, and Prashanth Reddy(19), an unemployed youth from Sanath Nagar.

According to the police, Saleem was allegedly supplying Termin injections, Tapentadol (Tapazole) 100 mg tablets, and Senkof and Alkof DX cough syrups without valid prescriptions to make illegal profits. “Saleem worked as an assistant to his elder brother at Smart Choice Health Pharmacy in Sanathnagar. In his brother’s absence, he allegedly sold the medicines at higher prices without prescriptions. Police said he also used pharmacy rubber stamps and maintained a separate storage space in the same building for stocking the medicines,” said the police.

Reddy, who allegedly purchased the medicines for personal consumption, approached Saleem’s store to buy the drugs without a doctor’s prescription. Acting on a tip-off, the Task Force and SR Nagar police caught the two red-handed.

Police seized 12 Termin injection vials, 10,000 Tapentadol 100 mg tablets, 450 bottles of Senkof cough syrup, six bottles of Alkof DX cough syrup and a OnePlus Nord 5 mobile phone. The total value of the seized property was estimated at Rs 4.80 lakh.

A case has been registered, and further investigation is underway.
