Philippines eyes sona rice, paddy imports from Telangana
The Philippines has expressed interest in importing high-quality rice and paddy from Telangana to meet its growing foodgrain demand, estimated at two million metric tonnes for the coming year. During discussions in Delhi, Agriculture Minister Francisco P. Tiu Laurel Jr. met Telangana's Civil Supplies Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy to explore export opportunities.

Hyderabad: Philippines has expressed its interest in importing high-quality rice as well as paddy from Telangana to meet the growing requirement of foodgrains.
Francisco P. Tiu Laurel Jr., Minister for Agriculture, Philippines, who was in Delhi had discussions with the Minister for Civil supplies N Uttam Kumar Reddy on Wednesday. Their discussions were centered mainly on expanding exports.
The Philippines Minister noted that his country anticipated a requirement of approximately two million metric tonnes of rice and paddy in the coming year. This presents an opportunity for Telangana to bolster its agricultural exports.
D.S. Chauhan, Commissioner of Civil Supplies, proposed export of Telangana’s Sona (RNR 15048) rice variety. Additionally, Minister Laurel inquired about the potential for importing maize from Telangana, signalling further opportunities for collaboration.
