What is a Pink Moon?
The first full moon that signifies the onset of spring is referred to as the Pink Moon. Uniquely, this full moon is also called ‘micromoon’ as it will appear slightly smaller than usual because it is at its farthest point from the Earth — a position known as apogee.

But does the moon actually appear pink? The answer is no! Despite its name, the moon does not change its colour to Pink. The name Pink Moon is derived from a flower that blooms during the spring season.

It is named after the pink wildflower Phlox subulata, one of the earliest blooming spring flowers in North America. The term originated during colonial times, when seasons were named based on environmental changes observed in nature.
