Warangal: Condemning union Minister Piyush Goyal’s remarks that the Telangana government must ensure that people get habituated to eating broken rice, CPI State secretariat committee member Thakkallapally Srinivas Rao has demanded that Goyal tender an unconditional apology to the people of Telangana.
“The comments made by Piyush Goyal reflect his arrogance. The comments are nothing but a humiliation to the people of Telangana, who used to eat the broken rice several decades ago due to poverty. It is once again proved that the BJP leaders are treating the Telangana people as secondary grade citizens, and they have no respect for the Telangana movement or sentiment. Given these conditions, we are demanding Goyal to withdraw his words, and tender an apology immediately,” he said, and added that BJP leaders are behaving like an ‘epitome of arrogance’ due to power. “But they can’t remain in power forever. They should remember this, and behave properly,” Rao added.
Meanwhile, a farmer and small businessman from Nallabelli village in the district, M Adinarayana Reddy said that the unwarranted comments made by Goyal are nothing but rubbing salt to the old wounds. “Earlier, people from Andhra used to comment on Telangana people on their food habits. They used to humiliate us that Telangana people take only jowar rava and maize rava (Gaduka or Gatka). Now, the comments of Goyal are in a similar way. Leaders of all political parties from Telangana must condemn these comments, and the leaders of the BJP from the State should also exert pressure on Goyal to withdraw his comments, and tender an apology,” Reddy added.
