Mahabubnagar: Excise Minister V Srinivas Goud wanted officials to create awareness among people to plant five saplings during new house constructions as a means to increase green cover in the district.
As part of road widening and carriageway development, saplings were being planted all along the Central medians from Appannapalli to RTA office in the town, he said.
The Minister planted saplings on the road median opposite to R & B Guest House as part of Haritha Haram programme.
He directed the district officials to set up drip irrigation system to ensure regular supply of water to the saplings, besides proper growth.
Addressing on the occasion, he said Telangana Government was striving hard for overall development of Mahabubnagar town.
The Minister said prior to 2014 Mahabubnagar was deprived of any development. Residents used to complain about insufficient water and power supply and lack of proper infrastructure in the district, especially in the town, he said.
“After Telangana formation, Mahabubnagar was witnessing rapid development and many measures were being taken for further development,” Srinivas Goud said.
Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao’s vision to increase green cover in the State through Haritha Haram was yielding good results. In addition to this programme, Rajya Sabha MP J Santosh Kumar’s Green India Challenge initiative was also being appreciated by all sections, he said.
