Hyderabad: A playful act by a kid resulted in a tragedy, claiming the lives of two children Vaishnav (8) and Prashant (9) after they suffered severe burns at Ippatoor of Nawabpet mandal in Mahabubnagar on Thursday evening.

The incident occurred when three children, including eight-year-old Shiva, were playing near a haystack in the agricultural field. While Vaishnav and Prashant were playing with a wheel, Shiva found a matchbox and lit fire around 6 pm. Panic-stricken Vaishnav and Prashant rushed into a haystack to take cover from the fire. The haystack caught fire and they suffered serious burn injuries.

Hearing their screams, locals immediately rushed to the spot and shifted them to District Hospital, Mahabubnagar. The two children succumbed to the burn injuries while undergoing treatment late in the night, Nawabpet Police said.

After conducting autopsy, the bodies were handed over to the family members, the police said, adding that a case has been registered and investigation was being conducted into the incident.
