Hyderabad: Telangana has completed works covering 11,342 kms road length out of the 14,320 kms road length sanctioned to the State under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY).

TRS MPs including P Dayakar, Venkatesh Netha, M Kavitha, G Ranjith Reddy and Congress MP Komatireddy Venkat Reddy had sought details of PMGSY works allocated to Telangana in Lok Sabha on Tuesday. In reply, Union of Minister of State for Rural Development Sadhvi Niranjan Jyothi said funds for implementation of the scheme were released by the Ministry to the State as whole.

However, further release of funds to the programme implementation units (PIUs) at the district level is done by respective State depending on the expenditure to be done. Since 2016-17, Rs 789.22 crore has been released to Telangana as Central share for implementation of various interventions/verticals of PMGSY in the State.

During the last five years and current year towards implementation of the PMGSY in Telangana, Rs 1,473.94 crore, including State share has been incurred. Sadhvi Niranjan Jyothi also said under PMGSY III, Telangana was allocated target length of 2,427.50 Km, out of which 1,119.94 Km was sanctioned to the State on June 22, 2020.

Based on the subsequent project proposals by the State Government, additional 1,217.05 Km was sanctioned on March 31, 2021 and 58.86 Km on May 11, 2021. As per the programme guidelines, the timeline for completion of road work is 12 working months from the date of issue of work order.

However, where a package comprises more than one road work, the total time given for completion of the package is 18 months. Similarly, a time period of 21-24 months has been allowed for completion of bridge works exceeding 25-meter in length, depending on site conditions.
