Kothagudem: Police have registered a case under the POCSO Act against 10 persons in Annapureddipalle mandal of Kothagudem district.

They were accused of attacking a minor boy who was found alone with a minor girl at her home during the night on Wednesday. According to locals, the accused entered the girl’s house, caught the boy, tied him to a tree and beat him without even questioning the two children.

The accused, who were said to be village elders, also subjected the girl to severe verbal abuse besides beating the boy. It was said that the boy was the girl’s elder brother. The action of the village elders, based merely on suspicion and disregarding the children’s relationship, caused a stir in the village.

When the girl’s parents returned home and learned of the incident, they lodged a complaint with the police against the villagers for trespassing and harassing the boy. The girl told her parents that the 10 individuals who had entered the house had behaved indecently towards her and touched her inappropriately.

Following the complaint, the police registered a case under the POCSO Act against the 10 persons and launched an investigation into the incident.
