Hyderabad: Telangana Jagruthi president and BRS MLC K Kavitha on Monday urged poets and writers to act as collective conscience of society and fearlessly speak about the shortcomings of governments, regardless of those in power. She emphasised the critical role of literature in shaping Telangana statehood movement and preserving Telangana’s identity.

Speaking at the Yuva Keratalu Kavi Sammelan organised by Telangana Jagruthi at the Telangana Saraswata Parishad here, Kavitha lauded the role of young poets, stating that Telangana’s literature will thrive for centuries through their voices. She also lauded those who chronicled the sacrifices and betrayals during the separate statehood movement through their literature.

“People of Telangana can showcase both contempt and love, in equal measure. Poets and writers must reflect them, as only real poets and writers can speak truth fearlessly against those in power,” she said.

The BRS MLC reminded that Telangana Jagruthi had sown cultural seeds early on, teaching children Bathukamma songs to preserve heritage. She sought the support of poets, writers and artists for Telangana’s future. Telangana Jagruthi will involve them in upcoming campaigns, she added.

Held on the occasion of Telangana Formation Day, the gathering saw poets aged below 35, presenting their work in Telugu, Urdu and other languages. On the occasion, Kavitha released “Balamuri Kondalarayudu Geya Kavyam” by Kanchanapalli Govardhana Raju and praised his contribution to Telangana’s literature.
