Rajahmundry: The Polavaram project is in doldrums, and unless the State government took up the issue seriously, it would not be completed, according to former MP Undavalli Arun Kumar.
Talking to media persons here on Thursday, he said he had feared that the Jagan government would relinquish its responsibility on the mega project which were now coming true. Recalling that Jagan during his padayatra before elections, repeatedly criticised the TDP government on Polavaram issue, he said that the state was facing the heat now.
When the Centre changed its stance, the state could have done well to file a counter, he felt, wondering what prevented it from doing so.
Though Polavaram had the approval of the Parliament, Chandrababu Naidu had compromised on it, settling for a special package, he stated, and asked the Centre why it was going back on its assurance. Instead of spending money on Pattiseema, the TDP government could have utilised the funds for Polavaram which would have resulted in completion of a major part of the project by now, he felt.
