Amaravati: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy has exuded confidence that the prestigious Polavaram project would be completed by Kharif season in 2023.
Participating in a discussion on the project in the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly here on Tuesday, he said the approval of the designs by the CWC was being awaited which the union Minister concerned had promised to clear by the end of this month. Once the approval was obtained, the work on the project would be completed without any hindrance in 18 months, he stated.
On the allegations of the TDP that the proposed height of the dam was being reduced, the Chief Minister clarified there was no question of budging even an inch. The R and R works would be implemented with the assistance of the Centre and a statue of late YSR who initiated the project, would be installed at Polavaram, he revealed. “I will complete the project which was started by my father,” he stated.
Observing that the project had incurred financial loss as well as inordinate delay due to the negligence of the previous Telugu Desam Party government, Jagan said the lower coffer dam was severely damaged with a cavern formed on a total extent of 35.6 metres in the foundation as well inside. The project suffered solely due to Chandrababu Naidu, who claimed himself to be a visionary but took over the project only with the intention of taking commission from contractors, he alleged, adding that the previous government also had squandered Rs.100 crore in the name of Polavaram tours.
