Police arrested Bhadrachalam MLA PA, Korla Kalyan for duping unemployed youths with false promises of employment.
Kothagudem: Police have arrested Bhadrachalam MLA’s PA, Korla Kalyan, for allegedly duping numerous unemployed youths with false promises of employment and remanded him in judicial custody.
In an official statement on Monday, Bhadrachalam DSP M. Arun Kumar said the accused, a senior assistant in the Revenue Department and a resident of Samithi Singaram in Manuguru mandal, was arrested at Bhadrachalam on Sunday.
Kalyan had allegedly deceived 54 unemployed individuals from various areas, including Bhadrachalam, Manuguru, Paloncha, Yellandu, Cherla, Dummugudem, Wajedu and Burgampad, over a period of time by promising them jobs at BTPS Manuguru and ITC Sarapaka.
He allegedly collected around Rs 8 crore from them but failed to provide any employment. Following a complaint by Rayala Srinu of Bhadrachalam, Bhadrachalam town police registered a case 10 days ago and launched a search to trace Kalyan.
During interrogation, it was revealed that Kalyan had become addicted to online cricket betting and had lost large sums of money. He confessed to the crime, admitting that he had collected money from acquaintances by promising them jobs, only to lose all the funds in online betting.
Cases have been registered against him at various locations and are currently under investigation, the DSP said. He urged the public to remain vigilant against individuals who deceive unemployed people by promising jobs and collecting money from them.
The public should also be cautious about online betting, betting apps and illegal online gaming platforms. Many people lose their hard-earned money after being lured by the prospect of quick and high returns and often suffer further financial losses while attempting to recoup their initial losses, he added.
